BASIC UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL NEW MEMBERS.
U-Boat/Kriegsmarine uniforms and accoutrements are relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to obtain from various Internet websites, or from militaria dealers at shows. Please bear in mind that we encourage recruits to purchase good quality repro or original BD kit for this impression.
This is a basic, but not exhaustive, list of uniforms and kit for the U-Boat Society recruit. One from each category can be purchased to begin with:-
Navy blue Schiffchen, or Bordmutze sidecaps.
Navy blue Matrosenmutze, with added removable white top.
Blue/grey German BD style 2-piece uniform
U-Boat two-piece work denims
Blue-grey/black German overalls
Navy blue Matrosen trousers (early post-war is acceptable)
Grey German service shirt
White KM vest, preferably with eagle insignia on front.
Issue underwear style vest
Navy blue Matrosen over-shirt (early post-war is acceptable)
Off-white or grey submariner’s polo neck jumper.
*Short shaft jackboots
*Black ankle boots
Canvas ochre deck shoes
Leather German sports shoes
Grey woollen socks
(*Boots preferably without studs)
Black German EM/NCO belt and brass KM buckle to be worn with overalls or one-piece suits.
Braces, or webbing belt, to be worn with BD denim trousers.
UNIFORM REQUIREMENTS FOR ESTABLISHED MEMBERS
Note: this section is for information only, and does not apply to new memberships.
All ranks beneath NCO’s are as ‘new recruits’ above, but the additional items, below, are also optional. All correct insignia should be worn by established members.
Headwear – Officers and NCO’s
KM ‘crusher style’ caps correctly depicting your rank.
Officers and NCO’s: Parade style Reefer jackets and matching trousers.
Officers and NCO’s: Tropical uniform
Lower ranks: Shortened ‘Collani’ or Pea jackets.
All ranks: Grey leather deck uniform/Black leather engine-room uniform
(as appropriate to your trade.)
White shirt and black tie for Officers and NCO’s.
Plaid style shirt for all ranks (must be period or traditional German style)
Black plain walking-out shoes for Officers and NCO’s.
Correct epaulettes and insignia should be worn if loops are fitted to tunics and jackets.
Bosun’s whistle, with lanyard, for Bootsmanner NCO’s.
