Awards and medals
The German armed forces during WW2 were quite unique inasmuch that they wore medals and awards openly on their combat uniforms. This was the same of all arms of service including the Kriegsmarine, W-SS, Heer and Luftwaffe. In this respect, all re-enactment groups, including the U-Boat Society, are no exception.
The issue of promotions and awards in a re-enactment context is to reflect on the commitment, skill, experience and helpfulness of the said member. Each and every group has it’s own criteria for such awards but the following is the appropriate criteria as laid down by the U-Boat Society.
The following is a list of awards that can be earned in recognition of your conduct and commitment within the group and the qualification needed to receive the award:-
